Allen West Weighs In On The GOP Rift

No real surprise here, as Allen West was shunned and targeted by an angry establishment for his small government heresy way back in the ancient year of 2012. Allen stuck to his principles, kept his promises to his constituents, refused to adopt the go along to get along mentality of capitulation to the inevitable infliction of Marxist Dogma. For his sins, the Florida GOP gerrymandered his congressional district out of existence in a year where Florida actually gained House Seats. We got this guy back in the House as a result,

Representative Alan Grayson. Never mind that this is one the most over the top partisan pieces of filth from the political left who has made his bones by accusing anyone right of center of being murdering rapist thugs trafficking in human bondage while literally throwing grandma off of the nearest available cliff. That you see is what the Republican Establishment finds preferable to having an actual conservative voice being able to state his opinion within the inner sanctum of their coalition. They’ll all of them campaign to the right of Barry Goldwater, but in practice, forget it. It was all just another day in the GOP’s longstanding war against its own base.

Ted Cruz is not popular with the base because of anything new that he’s said. Other’s, most notably those of us who make up the base, have been saying the same thing for years. He’s popular with the base because he’s backed up his words with actions, and in that endeavor, unfortunately he is in much thinner company. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have had the temerity to actually state our case, and have done so in public at the unapproved time known as the primary period when nominations need to be secured. We have been thirsting for actual leaders for so long, that the establishment is scared to death when someone actually does what they were elected to do. If Ted Cruz got the memo that said when elected, you must commit yourself to surrender of your principles, he chose to ignore it. For his sins, he faces the wrath of the establishment, who are above all else, in constant fear of losing their grip on power.

Allen West’s take on this is interesting and well stated. He compares Cruz’s stand and tactics to the Spartan’s military defeat at the hands of the Persians brought to recollection in the movie, “300.” His thesis, is that sometimes even in defeat during a battle, a war can be won. Ted Cruz is doing something useful here, even if we all know that eventually, this battle will be lost. Ted Cruz is fighting, and he is fighting his battle without the help of many of those supposedly on his side.

Since this heated up about a week ago, many accused Cruz of everything from kicking puppy dogs to using this issue to propel him to the leadership of his party. My belief however is that Cruz is doing it for another reason. I believe that Cruz is taking on this endeavor because he believes it to be the right thing to do. That right there makes him unique amongst our national leaders. The reason that this obvious motivation was missed by all of the talking heads on Sunday through today is because of the sad fact that far too few have ever had doing the right thing as their motivation.
